ok guys i need to know how hard it would be to put a 454 in my 91 rs. a friend just offered me one complete with shorty headers. i will have to sell the 305 which i just rebuilt (only 87 miles on it) first. so i guess my question is, is it do able? and how much is my 305 worth? its bored .30 over, heads milled, slightly bigger cam. crome valve covers.1in spacer between tbi and intake, rebuilt tbi. i know im gonna have a problem with emissions but been there b4 wink, wink. watcha guys think?

maybe $500 for the LO3?

454 will fit...it'll bolt right up to the existing engine mounts from what I read. May need to replace the wiper motors/mounts with something from a truck if using taller aftermarket valve covers. I read some stuff on that recently. friend of mine is wanting to do that to his 89 Formula

some clearances will be tight, but it can fit. I heard cooling might be a problem, especially with stock radiator, etc.

damn, i have a whole lot more than 500 invested in the 305 hell the spacer alone was 90. anyway im thinking the tranny and rear wont hold up to the 454 so if i sold the motor, tranny, and rearend i have now and bought a t56 and a 12 bolt posi, hummmmm. guess i could sell the computer to. how hard would it be to keep my stock gauges working? damn that thing would be quick.

If you are going to all that trouble, why not fab a dash too? Seriously, the trans can be built up, but putting a 454 in a 3rd gen makes them extremely nose heavy. I knew a guy that did it, and it was cool, but the engine compartment was crowded as hell. Hooker used to make headers for that combo, and they went together in pieces (it really is that tight in there). That car also had a hell of a rake to the front, almost funny looking.

The idea sounds good in theory, but I don't think it would be worth it IMO. I am not a really big fan of big block Chevy engines, but I think it would be more trouble than it is worth, also. It is easy enough to drop thousands of dollars on one of these cars without doing a complex engine swap. Ask me how I know

well, no im not, at least not until i can get it running right. check my post in the nontech forum, the smell from the exhust gave me a headach last time i drove it. after xmas i can devert my money back to car parts, or to a shop. this is the first motor i built by myself and i think i messed something up. to be truthful here i have about 4grand in the car, block bored, heads milled ,rebuild kit, cam, timing gears, all sensors new. wife is pissed and wants me to sale it. i said no way. (been through this b4 with a 69 , sold it and still miss it). not going to let this one go, i need to find a shop that knows about these 305s so i can get it right.
